These trying times have changed the look of ministry here in Chicago and around the world. Though our surroundings and circumstances have changed, our methods of reaching the next generation with the gospel have not. Viridian Calix is one of CEF of Chicago’s missionaries working alongside her husband living at the Housing for Urban Ministry Building. Viridiana recently shared how God is at work in Maywood even in the most unexpected ways:
“For a while, I have been wanting to connect with women at the ministry center as my passion is women’s ministry. However, with COVID happening everything I had thought of doing could not be done anymore. During COVID I started an online Christian shop called Abide Shop 20 and through it I connected with many women online, many of whom were entrepreneurs and moms. I thought maybe we could have a co-working space for moms while their kids were attending a Good News Club but I had no idea how to connect with entrepreneurs in person. The next morning after sharing the vision with the CEF team, my husband and I were studying the book of Matthew and we were in 9:37-38 which says, ‘Then he said to his disciples, “The harvest is abundant, but the workers are few. Therefore, pray to the Lord of the harvest to send out workers into his harvest.”’
So we did exactly that. Something in me told me to go to the park with my son. When I did, I found there was no one there until a mom with a toddler showed up. We began talking and she asked what I do. I shared CEF with her and we talked for an hour. I found out she too is a believer, has a daughter that would be interested in GNC, has a ministry working with women and some of them are entrepreneurs! She already has a following and a group of women she just didn’t have a place to meet and didn’t have anything for the kids while the moms got together. I had the exact opposite ‘problem’, we have a teacher and the place but no moms or kids! We partnered the other day and had our first GNC. We had three kids come and two moms, but that’s just the beginning! She is making a flyer to reach her group and more women in the area! To God be the glory for providing this divine appointment and bringing all the details together so many boys and girls can know Jesus!”
Would you be praying for this connection? That the Lord would move women to bring their children and friends to the Good News Club at the Housing for Urban Ministry Building (The HUB) to hear the gospel of Jesus Christ and grow to be stronger believers? Would you also continue to pray for boldness for our staff members in connecting with people God has for us in ministry?
