Prayer Changes Things

Prayer is the foundation of everything we do. Without the power of prayer, all of the work in the world will amount to nothing of value. Five years ago, the Chicago CEF team intensified its focus on prayer by praying together every Monday morning via a conference call. During one of those calls five months ago, we began to pray for the W.P.E. School in Chicago to be open to a Good News Club. Here’s a little look at what God did:

The phone rang, and Ben hurried across the room to answer. One of the students from Moody Bible Institute who teaches Good News Clubs each week for her Practical Christian Ministry was on the line. “Could we start a Good News club at W.P.E School? I know the lady who was going to host it said the principal didn’t want us there, but I was walking by the school and met the principal who was outside watering the flowers. I told her about the club, and she wants us to do it”. Ben was ecstatic. Two months later, Ben gave Karis an update about the club’s lack of progress. “I can’t get the principal to get back with me, via phone or email”, he said. “It doesn’t make sense. For months I’ve been trying to contact her. Let’s keep praying about it.” After three months of praying for the school to open to us, we finally received a green light and started the club in January. There is such a difference in ministry when we know people are actively praying. The second week in club, the club teacher teaching the Bible lesson, gave an invitation to trust Christ as Savior from sin, and seven children responded, going to the corner to talk with her about how to do just that!  Thank you for faithfully praying for the work God is doing in Chicago — it makes such a difference.
